It is this harmonious blend based on the Cabernet Sauvignon which has made the prestigious wines of Médoc so famous. Château Sociando produces full-bodied wines with a lovely deep dark colour outstanding for its special bouquet dominated, inter alia, by a delicate fragrance of raspberries. In their youth, the wines tend to be rather virile but they mature remarkably well in the typical Haut-Médoc "old-fashioned" style, that is to say wines for laying down. These specific qualities are due, apart from the terroir, to "long" vatting and very strict selection: only grapes from vines which are at least ten years old are permitted to be included in the "Château Sociando-Mallet" denomination because it is old vines which produce great wine. Particular care is taken over ageing the wines which, as tradition requires, are allowed to mature in barrels of merrain oak until bottling, all of which is done at the château. The wines of château Sociando-Mallet have the reputation of a good classified growth.
